Telecom companies in India should now buckle up their shoes and pull up their socks. The man, who is on a silent mission to invade all business sectors in the country, has arrived with his newest launch Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards in association with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
Baba Ramdev, also reverently addressed as Swami Ramdev, is a world renowned Yoga guru and founder of one of the leading Fast Moving Consumer Goods brand in India Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. He shook the FMCG sector since its entry in 2006 giving a tough competition to major players, such as, Hindustan Unilever, Colgate Palmolive, Nestle, Dabur and Himalaya. Patanjali, a manufacturer of 900 products across cosmetics and food, enjoys a colossal market share because of its cheaper rates and claim to fame of being good for health.
A few months ago, Baba Ramdev had launched his Yoga channel on an OTT platform making his Yoga and meditation videos more easily accessible to people and also, in an attempt to reach the younger masses in the country. Already established as an ace Yogi, he is speedily taking over as a multi-faceted entrepreneur. After reigning on the FMCG sector, he has now set his foot in the Telecom industry.
Patanjali’s Swadeshi Samriddhi SIM cards will only be available to its in-house employees in the start. After the brand’s official launch, common people will be able to purchase this SIM card and also get a rebate of 10 percent on Patanjali products using this card. It will only cost Rs. 144 for unlimited calls nationwide, 2GB data and 100 SMSs. With this card, users can also avail insurance coverage for health, accidents and life of 2.5 and 3 Lacs.
This, without a question, is a nightmare come true for the Indian Telecom industry, especially Reliance Jio. Patanjali and BSNL are rolling on the idea “Welfare of the country,” which is already impressing its initial chunk of customers.
The popular Yoga guru has been seen taking keen interest in the country’s political situation and has made several appearances on TV shows and entertainment award nights. Popular GEC Discovery Jeet also airs a show based on his life titled “Swami Ramdev – Ek Sangharsh (A Struggle).”
While the country patiently awaits his multipurpose SIM card that sways in between the Telecom and Insurance sectors, which other industry do you think should gear up to fight his highness for a bigger impending competition?
